New Minecraft deal with Egmont publishing may lead to books and magazines

Just when you thought Minecraft couldn’t get any more popular out pops the news that you’ll soon be able to see it in your local ASDA. Yep, if you’re a parent then your kids may soon be screaming at you to buy them the latest Minecraft magazine or book, with Minecraft creator Mojang and children’s publisher Egmont publishing inking a new deal.

The publishing deal covers all territories except the US, although we don’t really know exactly what form of product the deal will create. However, a spokeswoman told Techcrunch that it will be launching next year.

“We are working closely with Mojang and with Minecraft enthusiasts to create a range of products that will deliver extra depth and breadth of content to engage and inspire fans and to enhance the experience of playing Minecraft,” she continued. ”Minecraft excites and inspires millions of kids around the world and their appetite for content is obvious from the huge success of the online tutorials posted by passionate fans.”

Egmont already has a deal with Angry Birds creator Rovio that will see the creation of a line of children’s books based on the extremely popular bird-flinging games. With Mojang already making waves in the merchandise arena (including Minecraft LEGO!) it can’t be long before we see those little blocks taking up space near the banana’s.
