Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC announced

Bioware has announced that a free download called the Extended Cut will be available for Mass Effect 3 this summer.

The DLC will address the controversial ending of the story, by adding additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes to the ending. It will not provide any new endings to the game however.

Bioware explains further:

“BioWare strongly believes in the team’s artistic vision for the end of this arc of the Mass Effect franchise,” the studio said. “The extended cut DLC will expand on the existing endings, but no further ending DLC is planned.”

“What it will do is expand on the ending “by creating additional cinematics and epilogue scenes to the existing ending sequences”. “The goal of these new scenes is to provide additional clarity and closure to Mass Effect 3.”

This will be a timed-free purchase, which means by 12th April 2014, the DLC will no longer be free.

I’m really glad they’re not changing the ending for the sake of several reatrds who didn’t understand the clever complexity of the ending.

What a sad state of affairs that the Internet has intervened and could have spoilt a fantastic game.
