Halo Waypoint may utilise Xbox SmartGlass

When Microsoft revealed SmartGlass, and told us it would integrate with Xbox, I was left wondering how, in a world full of gaming possibilities, this might happen. Jerry Hook, Executive Producer for Halo 4, has lit the world’s smallest torch and looks to have aimed it at this explanation.
Here’s what he told Official Xbox Magazine in this month’s issue:

When Xbox started creating this great idea for SmartGlass, we came up with a couple of concepts that we could produce. That’s not necessarily what we’ll ship, but [Waypoint] is a good example of one of the things we thought would work well.

Our goal with Halo Waypoint in general is to be a hub that ties the whole franchise together. We realise that people will want to play different things, whether it’s Anniversary or Reach or Halo 4, and we want a place in which they can track their stats and look at new experiences that we will provide on Waypoint as we continue to move forward.

This then, would hint at using the innovation to stat track or maybe as inventory so you don’t have to interrupt the gameplay to view these. Will it catch on though is the big question. While I can see this being useful, is it really enough to warrant its use? We’ll have to wait and see. One thing is for certain, developers are seeing SmartGlass as a tool they can utilise, which can only be a good thing.
