Eurogamer Expo: Hands on with F1 Race Stars
As a huge fan of the F1 titles, as my most recent review suggests any chance to play a variation of the main game is must for me. Step up F1 Race Stars. Everyone knows about the famous circuits in the world of F1, Monaco, Silverstone and the new Circuit of Americas in Austin, Texas to name a few, but imagine turning onto a straight hitting the nitro button to be greeted with a huge loop-the-loop! Or how about having your car encapsulated by random balloons deployed by your rivals? F1 racing just got even more fun.
I got to race toe to toe with one of the Codemasters team, it was never going to be fair race as she knew all the tricks and made the most of them, there are shortcuts to unlock and powers ups in the forms of balloon will help and hinder you all at the same time. Red ones seek out the driver in front, purple ones fire straight ahead while yellow ones ricochet across the track. My two favourite powers ups were the ones that allow you to bring in wet weather causing the other racers to lose control of their cars while you charge through, the other allows you to deploy the safety car to slow the leading pack down.
The art style is awesome, bobble headed drivers in their mini vehicles will capture the imagination of youngsters and adults alike, and both will have great fun playing the game, oh and I lost my race.
