XCOM: Enemy Unknown gets set release date

It has been announced by 2K Games, the publisher behind the new XCOM title, that the re-imagining of 1994 classic strategy UFO: Enemy Unknown (also entitled XCOM: Enemy Unknown in certain parts of the world) will hit the shelves on the 9th October 2012 in North America, with an international release on the 12th October.
Along with this confirmation of its release date, 2K Games have also stated that anyone who pre-orders the upcoming game will be entitled to the”Elite Soldier Pack” DLC. This incentive provides the player with a possible recruit from the original XCOM game.
Additional speculation has been brought about due to the release date of XCOM, with many people in the industry assuming that this October release was the reason for Bioshock: Infinite’s delay to next year. 2K releasing two new titles at the same time would certainly not work in their favour when the sales figures are counted, and this move is likely to financially benefit them in the long run.
