SmartGlass SDK released for developers

Microsoft has released an SDK for SmartGlass, which is available for anyone who’s part of the Microsoft Game Developers Network.

The SDK includes a SmartGlass JavaScript library, sample application and the Xbox SmartGlass Studio, an environment for constructing SmartGlass “activities.”

SmartGlass is Microsoft’s answer to Nintendo’s WiiU, as it allows non-Xbox devices such as the Microsoft Surface to sync with the console and display information based upon what’s going on in-game.

During E3, Microsoft demonstrated SmartGlass using Madden, in which they designed game plans secretly on another device. They also used Halo as an example, where you could manage your player and weapon information during a Halo 4 match. SmartGlass could also be used to navigate videos and movies being viewed on the TV screen, or to stream those videos from Xbox Live to a portable screen for further viewing away from the TV.
