Microsoft has explained its decision not to include a headset with the Xbox One when it launches.

It explained to Ars Technica that the Xbox One comes with Kinect, which includes a microphone built in. A lot of people are already against having Kinect forced upon them, so this isn’t going to be good news to them.

In a statement, Microsoft said.

“Xbox One does not include a pack-in headset accessory,” Microsoft said. “Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire.”

Of course there is the option to buy an Xbox One Chat Headset on launch day, which will be sold separately at a price which is yet to be announced.

Then there’s third-party choices such as Turtle Beach’s new range exclusive to Xbox One which includes the XO Four and XO Seven.
