Before we get into this I’m going to throw out a little spoiler warning. I haven’t revealed much about the campaign itself but have linked those who want to find out more to the correct place. If you still don’t wish to find out anything about MW3 until the official reveal then don’t read on, you’ve been warned!
Lots of major details have been leaked about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and posted on the Kotaku website. Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s ‘Creative Strategist’ formerly known as the community manager, announced via his Twitter that some of the leaked information is correct whilst some is not.
Much like many other Call of Duty games it looks like you’ll be taken all over the world in the campaign. Personally, I’m interested in seeing the London location along with the castle in the Czech mountains.
Kotaku has reported that the campaign will take place in the following places:
- Dharmasala, India
- New York, New York
- A plane transporting the president of Russia
- A town in Sierra Leone
- London, England
- Mogadishu, Somalia
- Hamburg, Germany
- Paris, France
- Prague, Czech Republic
- A castle in the Czech mountains
- Berlin, Germany
- The Kremlin in Moscow, Russia
- Dubai, United Arab Emirates
- Washington. D.C.
Now we’ll get on to the storyline itself, Kotaku reports that “Modern Warfare 3 opens as Modern Warfare 2 closed: The United States under siege by Russian forces, ultranationalist Vladimir Makarov on the loose, Captain John “Soap” MacTavish and Captain John Price wounded and on the run with the Russian informant known as Nikolai.”
“Fleeing to a safehouse in Dharmasala, India, the three are attacked by Makarov’s men. In this firefight players take on the role of Yuri, a loyalist who works for Nikolai. Their safehouse compromised, the group flee the area in a helicopter.”
In order to avoid any major campaign spoilers I’ll leave that there, if you wish to know what happens next you can read the full article on Kotaku.
Last but not least there are some multiplayer details to share, once again thanks to Kotaku. It’s reported that the multiplayer will feature 20 although it’s unclear if all these maps will be available when the game launches or if some will be made available through map packs. The reported multiplayer map names are Alpha, Alps, Bootleg, Bravo, Brooklyn, Carbon, Coast, Dome, Exchange, Hardhat, Interchange, Lambeth, Meteora, Mogadishu, Paris, Plaza 2, Radar, Seatown, Underground and Village.
There will also be two Spec Ops game modes, Survival and Mission. The mission game mode will most likely be the same type as what we saw on the Spec Ops mode on MW2 but the Survival mode looks to be Infinity Ward’s equivalent of Treyarch’s Zombies with players having to fight off increasingly difficult waves of enemies.
That’s all for now but if you want to there is plenty more to read on Kotaku. Expect Infinity Ward to reveal more MW3 information in the coming weeks, probably at E3 which starts on June 7 so stick with Xboxer360 throughout E3 for all the MW3 and other Xbox 360 related news.
