Microsoft gains patent for wearable controller

Microsoft has secured a patent for a wearable controller, which uses Electromyography (EMG) technology.

It uses your muscle movements to control gadgets such as an Xbox 360 or smartphone. Sensors gather electrical signals generated by the muscles and carries them to a device, either through a wireless or wired connection.

So where will we see this going? Well it could involve some sort of armband or wristwatch as a wearable controller, in which specific gestures will control motion.

It’s very similar to Kinect, although it appeared Kinect won the battle as it emerged on the market first back in November 2010. Now we may see this new technology introduced as well.

I can see this going either really well, or horribly wrong.

Awesome idea, will hopefully make Xbox more accessible for disabled gamers too!
