Champions League final: Medal of Honor vs. Call of Duty

It’s that time of year again when the top games companies begin gearing up their marketing strategies and fight for your attention (and money of course).

Yes that’s right, Call of Duty – quite possibly the biggest FPS the world has ever known, will begin airing TV adverts starting with a brand new unseen ad for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which they will show at half time during this weekend’s Champions League Final.

Now that’s not necessarily big news as this is often a prime spot for big video game franchises and companies, what makes this so interesting is that EA have announced they will also be airing a new ad for Medal of Honor: Warfighter straight after!

Greg Goodrich, Executive producer of Warfighter, has said that unlike last year, he’s hoping to stay quite and avoid any trash talking between the two companies and just let the games talk for themselves

“I think that because of our genre and the history of our franchise… it’s just a natural thing to want to go out and pick a fight, but if you look at it, almost none of it came from the development team. EA is a very big organisation, and there are a lot of grown-ups and adults that manage things that our out of our control.”

We shall see how long this code of silence lasts though, history tells us just how heated things get in the run up to release dates as pre-orders and incentives flow.

So it seems that Chelsea and Bayern Munich won’t be the only behemoths going head to head this weekend!

Just who are you backing?
