Indie Spotlight: This week’s Indie releases (23/08/2013)

Tucked away in a small corner of the Xbox Live Marketplace, the Indie Games section is a little haven for budding developers to show off their wares. This week we have 5 budget smashing titles to look at, here they are:

ERMAHGERD PONIES! – Nocturnal Studio

This mental-looking racer will have you piloting your vehicle of choice with a pony. Collect jewels, play with up to 3 of your friends and whatever happens, win. The soundtrack is pure madness too. 80 MS Points

Tales of the Orange Forest – Romulus N Reamus Studios

This is a ragdoll physics based platformer, a little in the style of Happy Wheels online. Run, jump and fight your way in the two main game modes, Gauntlet and Duelling Arena. There are also four different characters to play with, Daru the skeleton, Oscar the ghost, Vinny the vampire or the obligatory zombie, Rick O. Mortis. 240 MS Points

Stick ‘Em Up Arena 2: Jetpacks – WickedWorx

What better way to pass the time on a rainy afternoon than with a frantic stickman jetpack deathmatch? Play with up to four friends as a winner takes all match or 2v2 teams in 8 different jetpack and wall-jump areas. This also features spaceships in some levels to give you an extra advantage. 80 MS Points

Magicians & Looters – Morgopolis Studios

This great-looking 2D platformer is like a cross between Metroid and Castlevania, according to the developer’s blurb. Rescue something, there’s no clue what as yet, and travel through forests, castles, caverns and even an underground city. Featuring a talking cat, what more could you want? 80 MS Points

X-Orbtek II – Oxygen Addict

This, on first look, is an obvious Asteroids clone. It is slightly different though. Instead of mundanely dodging wire-frame rocks and shooting the odd UFO, you get to collect things and battle waves of enemies. It still looks like Asteroids though. 80 MS Points

So that’s all for this week, enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend if you’re in the UK, and the less said about people enjoying festivals the better.
