Facebook and Twitter apps removed from latest Xbox 360 update

The new dashboard update began rolling out to Xbox 360 owners earlier this week, but with all the new updates – including a version of Internet Explorer – there are a couple which have actually been removed, Neowin reports.

The Facebook and Twitter apps that Microsoft added to the console back in 2009 are no longer available to download from the app marketplace. The Facebook app will still work for pre-existing installs, but new users won’t be able to download and install it; although the apps are still showing on the official Xbox site.

Microsoft has removed the apps so users will instead launch the Facebook and Twitter sites through the new browser instead, as it said in statement;

We are retiring the Facebook and Twitter apps. Xbox LIVE subscribers will have the ability to access these sites through Internet Explorer on Xbox, available through the Web Hub located on the new dashboard.

Personally I hardly ever touched the apps, and from what I can gather neither did many people. Did you use the apps yourself? Will you even miss them? Answers on a postcard, or, ahem, maybe just the comments section below.
