Eurogamer Expo: Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood multiplayer

On offer at this year’s Eurogamer Expo is a full multiplayer level of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood for everyone to enjoy. I counted three booths dotted around the arena, all dedicated to the game, and I had to have a go.

The level we get to play here could be simplified by calling it a cat and mouse round, but take it from me there is nothing simple about it. You are placed in a town, and you have a target to catch. A dial at the bottom of your screen directs you on the right track, and an image at the top right shows what your target looks like. As you draw closer to your victim, a warning pops up which tells you not to run or you will be spotted, so sneaking is your only option. Sounds simple right?

Wrong. While all this is happening, you are being followed in the same way that you are doing the following. To make matters even worse your target is also stalking someone. You should always be on the look out for your target, while keeping an eye out to make sure you are not caught yourself. You think this is it?

Wrong. While you are running around, finding someone, while being stalked yourself, there are AI characters running around everywhere, in similar clothes to either you or the other players, to catch you out. If you kill one of these, or a civilian, you are deactivated and you have to start again with a new target. The more players you kill however, makes your wanted status grow. Every time you kill someone, more people will then be after you, instead of just one originally. The game is forever evolving due to the actions you create.

I was a bit pessimistic about this multiplayer option, as I just didn’t think it would work. After playing it, it has given me even more reason to yearn for this game. Rich from Xboxer360 agreed with me yesterday when he was at Eurogamer. When he got home he promptly pre-ordered it. That says a lot about the game: pre-ordering after playing just one level of multiplayer hands-on!

Eurogamer Expo is the UK’s biggest annual video games event. This year the event took place at London’s Earls Court and the hottest anticipated titles were on show for the public to go hands on with, many developers and representatives were also on hand for quizzing and also to give out special goodies to lucky gamers. This year xboxer360 was in attendance and this is our impression of the games we got to play on:

You echo the sentiments of a lot of gamers when they initially heard the words "multiplayer" and "Assassin's Creed". Even I, a long time Ubisoft fan, stopped to think WTF??!

Having since played the Brotherhood Multiplyer beta, i've been overwhelmed and very impressed by how well this has been implemented, and how good it looks. If Ubisoft manage to address some issues that have been brought up during the beta phase, and can make some minor tweaks before launch, they will easily have a "gem" on their hands.

I totally agree. The lack of faith I had in this multiplayer mode has gone out the window. Very impressed.

P.S You are such a Ubi whore. :)
