Eurogamer 2013: Wolfenstein: The New Order
We were given the opportunity to play about 20 mins of Wolfenstein: The New Order, developed by MachineGames, founded by ex-employees of Starbreeze studios, famous for The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness.
If you have played either of those two games you’ll get a familiar feeling of a game you’ve played before, but that’s no bad thing as Wolfensetin: The New Order is a solid shooter. You play as BJ Blazkowicz, who has woken up in an alternate future where the Nazis have won World War II. He sets out on a mission to recover the superweapons that they are using to control the world and defeat the Nazi regime.
The demo starts with you on a level in a building that is overun with Nazis. There are mechs to take down, turrets to control for eliminating waves of bad guys, and plenty of debris to hide behind and use as a shield. There are mini games such as breaking into lockers using electric wires, with the added pressure that enemies will still come after you as you try to break in.
What I really enjoyed about the demo was the mix of the old and new, taking on Nazis one moment then cutting thorugh scenery with a laser the next, the health system is quite old school, creeping back up as you run over fallen enemies, but I quite liked it. This game wasn’t really on my radar, but it’s certainly one to keep an eye on.
