EA says rumour that Dead Space franchise is canned is “patently false”

Earlier today we posted a story about EA having possibly cancelled Dead Space 4 due to poorer than expected sales of Dead Space 3. Well, as Ben said it was something that could only be treated as a rumour as EA had said nothing in response to the stories flying around. Now EA has, and they’re describing the rumours as “patently false”

A tweet from Gamasutra gave EA’s response, with Gamespot also being told that the original report isn’t true. Here’s the tweet in question:

“Rumors about poor Dead Space 3 sales and an unannounced Dead Space 4 being cancelled are “patently false,” EA tells us. Spread the word!”

So, detailed discussion around why EA would can the Dead Space franchise – something I took part in myself – can now thankfully stop. It does beg the question how the rumour got started in the first place though, and whether or not there’s actually some truth in it. We’ll just have to take EA’s word for it for now, especially as they’re yet to even announce Dead Space 3 sales.

It just goes to show that unconfirmed rumour can set the gaming industry on fire, at least for a few hours anyway.
