Hideki Kamiya, the legendary game designer behind games such as Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and Bayonetta has been having quite the quarrel with Kotaku over Twitter. Well, less an argument, more name-calling.

It all started when Kotaku reported on a tweet from Kamiya stating that he had no interest in Steam or PC gaming. They ran with the article “The Guy Who Made Bayonetta Is Clueless about Valve and PC Gaming” (which has now been changed).

When Kamiya caught wind of this, he called them “Douchbags” and suggested that what they do isn’t proper journalism.

That is when Kotaku and Kamiya started squaring off a bit more, as Luke Plunkett of Kotaku asked if he actually read the article, to which he replied “Do you eat shit?”

Plunkett tried to calm the situation down by saying that finding out Kamiya’s thoughts on the article and PC gaming could help understand why Steam hasn’t taken off in Japan. Although that just seemed to anger Kamiya further:

So I’m the leader of all Japan! Great.

Finally, after some gauding from a follower, he capped it off with “Fuck off, you fucking stupid idiot foreigner”. Now before people take that last comment too seriously, it should be noted that the context of the tweet is important, as he was simply mimicking what someone else said. Still…

I’m going to throw my hat in the ring for a second. Maybe it isn’t the fault of Japanese gamers that Steam isn’t taking off. Maybe the blame lies at the feet of Steam itself, who run the site exclusively in English. The occasional game has more language support but for the most part there are no foreign languages. Why WOULD Japan want to use it?
