Further more detailed information about Gears of War 2 has been discovered in the latest issue of US Magazine Game Informer. According to Cliffy B there will be lots of new enemies that will “make the Brumak look like a baby panda bear” (Panda’s are vicous, right?). The game is set 6 months after the end of the first game and will continue to revolve around Marcus & Dominic and new additions Tai Kaliso and Dizzy, with Cole and Baird set to return later in the game. Dizzy is believed to be a former stranded (Remember the guys on the Kryll mission?) who joined the Gears in return of a safe haven for his family and Tai is supposed to be “Spiritual and Meditative” Did someone say Hippy?
Delta Squad will take command from Chairman Prescott, (No relation to John Prescott that we are aware of) who is Hoffmans boss from the first game, and from the outset delivers a speech to rally the troops ready for the war ahead, or so we understand. Delta will also focus on finding Dom’s Wife, Maria, who lost her kids in the opening shot of the war (Which also appears in the leaked movie script)
Covering hasn’t changed much but has been improved in some areas and will include moving cover which seems very interesting, maybe it will be a bit like Army of Two? We can only speculate at this stage.
The locusts are now reinforced with Kantus Monks, who revive locusts from a distance, so they must be killed very quickly in order to win any battle you enter. They can also use ‘Sonic Attacks’ and have ‘Gorgon Burst Pistols’ and ‘Poisonuos Grenades’ which will be available to you later in the game.
There will be a whole new range of weapons to add on from the last game and the active reloads will remain but may change slightly for different weapons. Also it looks like the Chainsaw duel has been confirmed! Woohoo!
Anyone for a new vehicle? The COG Centaur Tank will be coming into play (A cross between a monster truck and a tank) and will feature in a vehicle level like the one in the original game.
Many more features from the first game are included such as achievements and more details surrounding the COG tags from the first game.
Co-op has been much improved and will support a new drop-in feature, which means that each player can choose there own diffculity setting while playing together in co-op. No details have been mentioned on multiplayer yet but we suspect much larger team games. Game difficulty modes have been greatly increased so Insane will be “truly devastating” and casual will be ultra easy for all you wimps out there.
Gears of War 2 is due out in November.
