Default Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - who's getting it?

So, having never played the original and missing out on the sequel's beta multiplayer demo recently I have no idea what the Bad Company franchise can offer. However, just been watching a few trailers for it, and it actually looks pretty good.

I am still in love with MW2 though, so unless BF: BC2 can offer up something wildly amazing and innovative, I won't be getting it.

What do you guys think, and who's getting it?!

I love it, and I've had it preordered for a good few months now. We also had a mini game night on it, and it was pretty fun when working together as a team (or at least trying to anyway, lol).

It's different from MW2 in that it's more tactical. It's all about pushing the enemy back across a map (in rush anyway), or capturing a point and holding it in one of the other game modes (conquest). If you've played any of the other Battlefield games then you'll know what I mean by conquest, but for those that didn't it's basically the same as the capture A, B etc (forgot what it's called) and hold them on MW2.

It's also harder to kill people, and I think you need real skill to be a sniper as gravity actually affects the bullet (unlike in MW2 where it seems to travel in a straight line). Vehicles also play a major part in winning a battle, unlike the tanks that were shoehorned into WaW. Of course there's also the destruction, so if you can't kill someone in a building you simply blow it to pieces.

All in all it always seems like a massive battle is going on around you (especially as the maps are so big), where as MW2 feels more like a close quarters kill fest at times.

Hm, thanks for that - sounds interesting and possibly a bit more attractive than multiplayer in MW2!!! Presumably there's levelling up and unlockables?

I certainly like the sound of the destructible buildings...and this is in multiplayer, right?

One of the things that gets my goat about MW2 are the little bastards who camp at the edges of a map and just snipe people - I mean, I know that's the general idea of a sniper, but it really p1sses me off...especially when you can't get near them...I think, just get involved in the battle...get your hands a little dirty!!

Yup, there's a ranking system similar to the one in MW2 in that you can unlock new weapons and attachments. You always have the classes, which are assault (your standard grunt, but can drop ammo packs for use by you and anyone on your team), medic (who can use a defibrillator to revive people and also drop medic packs), engineer (my favourite class and suitable for anti tank as they get a missile launcher. They also get a repair tool so they can fix vehicles), and scout (basically the sniper class). You get experience for loads of different actions, particuarly ones associated with your class. So if you drop ammo packs you'll get a few points everytime they automatically refresh someones ammo, and the same goes for repairing a vehicle when someone is at in it. You get pins and other rewards for repeatedly doing actions like this, which is the games way of rewarding people who work as a team.

Destructible buildings are in multiplayer, and pretty much everything can be destroyed in some way. Trees blocking your way? Just gun them all down and drive through them with your tank. If someone is hiding behind a wooden fence the fence will break apart as your shooting at it, unlike the basic shoot through wood thing MW2 has. Cover doesn't last forever in this game, and the battlefield can quickly become a ruined mess (although there are still places to hide in all this mess). Not all buildings are fully destructible, as some will retain their frame. Others will completely collapse under intense bombardment though, such as when I heard a loud groan of a building collapsing in on itself before the body of a sniper fell out of it.

They did get rid of prone, which may annoy some people, but the excuse was to prevent the campers you mentioned. It's hard to see people when they're kneeling down in the bushes, so it would be even harder if they could go prone. The good thing about the rush mode is that someone can't camp forever as the battlefield moves up as more bases are destroyed. Even in conquest you can't stay in one place as the battles move to and fro between various control points. It just always feels like a fluid battlefield to me.

Sorry for the long post, I promise I don't work for DICE

One more thing from Eurogamer (who gave it 9/10).

    Concerning Modern Warfare 2:

Bad Company 2, however, is an open challenge to the market leader, Activision's blockbuster behemoth. So let me pin my flag to the mast right from the start. This is the superior game.

It's not just the occasional overt jibe at the competition's expense - though one cut-scene pokes fun at elite special forces who use "pussy-ass heartbeat detectors", while another vocal aside insists "snowmobiles are for sissies" as quad bikes roar along a narrow jungle path. The overall structure of the game echoes that of Infinity Ward's cash-cow while being smarter and deeper in almost every aspect. This is a game that nicks Call of Duty's party dress, and looks better in it.
Even playing the demo I can tell this is going to be my preferred of the two. I got quickly bored of MW2 where as I've always been a Battlefield fan at heart. I am far more excitied about this game than I ever was about MW2, and I only played the beta of the first Bad Company.

Yup cannot wait, mine got dispatched this morning so here's hoping for a tomorrow delivery. I recommend everyone gets the game if they can, I think the community nights should be shook up to accommodate this beast of a game.

No, no worries mate - it's appreciated! This is exactly the kind of response that makes this forum so great - a clear, concise answer with plus points...no flame war inducing, "my Dad's bigger than yours" tat.

But on topic, you've really sold it to me chap...it'll definetely be on my list come payday.

Plus RIISE referred to it as a behemoth, and I love that word...so I'm in!!
