1000 retro arcade games coming to arcade!

Ah. Remember those halcyon years spent whiling away your day in the arcades with a fistful of coins and all the time in the world? Wouldn't you love to go back and revisit all of those old, much beloved arcade cabinets?

Well, you can't but your Xbox Live Avatar can and will when the Xbox Game Room launches this spring for Xbox Live and Games For Windows Live.

The service will initially roll out with 30 titles but will be constantly expanded each week with over 1000 games promised over the next three years.

Users will be able to take their Avatars into their very own virtual Game Room filled with arcade cabinets and other retro paraphernalia, before inviting Xbox Live friends into the customisable arcade haven.

You'll be able to purchase Game Room arcade titles outright for between 240-400MS Points or play them once for 40MS Points.

Haaha, true. Its going to cost alot buying 1000 arcade machines at 240-400 space bucks... The 40 points a play if i don't buy the machine sounds like it'll drain my funds too..

One of the great things about (the) Arcade Room, is that the games will be playable on both the games for Windows platform and Xbox, finally giving us more gaming on the move (sort of). This means I will be able to play crappy arcade games where ever I am now, there is no escape!

If you watch the CES videos on the Dashboard, there's one that talks a little bit about the Arcade Room - it looks like it could be pretty cool.
