Compete for glory (and free Microsoft Points!) at the virtual event of the year
Everybody loves a good festival weekend, right? But once the crowds have dissipated and the acts have unplugged all you’re left with are damp clothes, a muddy tent and some (mercifully) foggy memories. All that’s set to change later this month as the three day Xtival ’07 comes to Xbox LIVE allowing gamers to enjoy all the excitement and vibrancy of a festival event from the comfort of their armchair.
From Friday 23rd until Monday 26th November every Xbox LIVE user will be given a free Gold membership for the duration of the weekend. In addition to this remarkable act of generosity, everyone is also invited to take part in a series of events and activities on the service.
For example, on the Friday there’s the ‘Developer Jam Session’ competition in which gamers can take on the team responsible for Project Gotham Racing 4. On Saturday wannabe rock stars will be able to shred at Guitar Hero in head-to-head competitions with some famous celebrities while on Sunday you’ll be able to show off your skills in some of the system’s top sports titles, from Tiger Woods, Table Tennis, Virtua Tennis and Forza 2 through to Pro Evolution Soccer 2008.
Throughout the weekend you’ll be able to demonstrate your eye for beauty/destruction by entering a Halo 3 art competition and recording stunning videos or taking expressive snapshots using the game’s unique theatre mode.But perhaps most intriguing is the news that designated ‘mystery gamers’ will be flooding the service, mixing incognito with players, clutching fistfuls of Microsoft Points ready to deal out to talented, funny or exceptional opponents. The combination of free Points and no mud or fresh air is surely something no gamer will be able to resist. See you in there!
