Realtime Studio’s Crackdown was a hit amongst fans when it touched down in early 2007. The decision of Microsoft to not initiate a sequel instantly proved costly for them and fans of the new franchise worldwide. Their dilly-dallying resulted in Realtime Studios moving on to a new project; APB, meaning Crackdown would have to lay in wait.
Gamasutrarecently reported that a crew of key Crackdown developers left Realtime Studios to set up their own studio, Ruffian Games. The new development studio includes Crackdown lead designer, Billy Thomson, as well as Gaz Liddon who was responsible for the physics, art amongst other things in the original.
Reports this time coming from
VG247state that an inside source revealed to them that Microsoft were funding the startup of Ruffian Games specifically to start work on Crackdown 2.
You may find that this rumour may in fact become reality with Microsoft’s very own Phil Spencer being very coy about it on Major Nelson’s podcast a few weeks back. When Major Nelson brought it up, Spencer stated “Yes, Crackdown’s one of my favorites. I’ll leave it at that.”
Now if that isn’t an indirect admission, I’m not sure what is. You be the judge as always; a story spun from hearsay or an actuality?
It seems that Konami have decided to give their latest Silent Hill: Homecoming title a European release date of February 27th; over 5 months after the North American release date.
The announcement comes out the blue after no reason was given regarding the European release delay in the first place. There was even a doubt whether Europe would get it after all the extensive delays.
I must ask though … Will anyone really care by then?
There was talk in the darkest regions of the Internet recently claiming that the Houser duo, Sam and Dan of Rockstar Games, would be set to leave when their contracts expired in February of 2009. Most of this talk was lead by analyst, Michael Pachter, who has a knack of getting these sort of things right.
Thankfully, for Take Two, that day never came as they secured the services of key team members yesterday until 2012. Key members of the team include, not only the Houser brothers, but GTA IV producer Leslie Benzies as well.
The press release interestingly mentions a new Rockstar IP in the offing as well and could have been instrumental in the agreement of the new deal … although we think it’s the new pay incentive structure that means that they’ll get a cut of sales.
“In addition, Take-Two has agreed to fund the future development of certain new intellectual property to be owned by a newly formed company controlled by key Rockstar Games team members and published exclusively by Take-Two.”
Take Two will be popping the champagne open tonight no doubt.
At Capcom’s recent Resident Evil 5 co-op multiplayer event in San Francisco, the publisher told Joystiq that the demo that Japan saw this month will be heading to the US in early 2009.
No word about Europe getting any love but Capcom US and Capcom Europe seem to run side by side in terms of these sorts of decision these days.
I for one will be happy to see this added to the Marketplace having missed the chance to get my hands on the Japanese version. The demo is said to be in English and up to standard already which spells nothing but good news for an early present in the new year.

Microsoft have recently announced their global release schedule for their exclusive RTS title, Halo Wars.
According to Microsoft, Japan will receive their copy first on February 26th, Europe will get it on February 27th, with North America getting it a few days later, on March 3rd.
The release date announcement means that Halo Wars will have some serious competition with it falling on the same day as Killzone 2 in Europe which receives a global release of February 27th. Maybe not the wisest move ever, But good enough for us.
Harmonix, speaking to Kotaku yesterday, stated that they are working on making the awesome Lips mics compatible with Rock Band 2.
“Microsoft and MTV Games are working together to ensure that consumers will be able to use the wireless mics from ‘Lips’ with ‘Rock Band 2’ after launch. More details on timing to come.“
No idea when, but let’s just say, it will happen eventually. This could prove a big move for Microsoft’s karaoke title as wireless mics with fancy lights in Rock Band is another reason for people to buy their Lips title.
CVG is reporting that they can confirm the development of Lego Harry Potter to be a truth, but provide no official source to speak of. Take it with a grain of salt for now, but this seems like a possibility given the nature of the games to date. Each thusfar has had a wealth of source material to work from, only Lego Batman choosing to create a new adventure rather than adapting previous movie-related storylines.

If you reside in the UK, own an Xbox 360 and haven’t bought Fable yet, now is the time people.
Gamestation has sent a note along bellowing the news that “for one week only Fable 2 on Xbox 360 is less than half its original price and is now available for an unbelievable £19.57!!!!”
Yes they really did put FOUR exclamation marks at the end of that. Makes it look more like a text from your little sister than a press release.

Jasper, the next version of the Xbox 360 motherboard, has been leaked and apparently it comes with new unannounced goodies. Apart from the rumored 65nm graphics processing unit—the unit uses a 150W power supply, 25W less than before, which signals a lower consumption most probably caused by the reduced GPU footprint—the new units allegedly come with a new south bridge and, surprise surprise, a 256MB flash memory chip for internal storage.

According to Xbox Scene, the new 256MB chip will allow to install the entire new NXE dashboard without requiring the hard drive or any external flash memory unit. It will also allow you to store XLBA games, save gamesave information, or whatever you want. The rest of the motherboard layout stays the same, except for the RAM memory configuration, which changes from the previous version.
In what I presume will be the first of many, Atari and SimBin today released a ton of info and assets for their first track reveal; Road America.
About the track:
Road America is one of only a handful of road circuits in the world which has maintained its original configuration of 6.515 km in length and 14 turns since it first opened in 1955. The track is located in Wisconsin, USA, halfway between the cities of Milwaukee and Green Bay.
The track has many elevation changes, fourteen turns, and a long front straight where drivers can reach speeds up to 300km/h. Road America is a very challenging track with high speeds gained on the long straightaways offset by hard braking zones and subtle turns that can catch out even the most seasoned drivers. Finding the ideal braking zones takes time and practice, but mastering these can help gain crucial tenths of a second vital in winning races at Road America.
One of the best known features of this course is a turn on the backside known as the “kink” following the 180 degree turn called the “carousel”. The “kink” is a wild corner that should be tackled with caution and respect as it is sharper than it looks, has walls on both sides and no run off. Start by braking, and then work up to just lifting as you become familiar with it.
Originally planned for release today (26th November), the Xbox Live Arcade version of Banjo-Kazooie has been pushed back to next week; December 3rd.
Of course, those of you lucky enough to have pre-ordered Nuts & Bolts will have already have had their fill of the title, but the rest of us haven’t and shall sit patiently and wait.
Until then, don’t forget to check out Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix which got released today … or don’t…
EA today announced that Skate 2 will be available in North America on January 21st and the rest of the world will see it on January 23rd.
The follow-up to the surprise hit, Skate, is said to improve upon the original in so many different ways. Not only will you have the ability to get off the board and move objects, but thanks to a new web based customisation tool available on www.skate.ea.com next month, players will be able to import graphics and give their skater and their equipment some sort of individuality.

After last week’s delay, Lionhead has finally unveiled their “big announcement” regarding Fable II, the game’s first downloadable content, the Knothole Island pack.
Scheduled for release on December 12th, the content pack is set to include the “remote island of Knothole,” complete with “new quests, wondrous items and bizarre characters,” according to the developer’s blog.
Weighing in at a modest 800 MSP, the Knothole Island DLC promises new quests, wondrous items and bizarre characters. If you fancy tackling this over co-op, be warned now that both players must have downloaded it to play it.
The Knothole Island DLC pack will take you on an adventure to the remote island of Knothole. When there, you’ll have to face the trials of three shines to bring the sun back to this now snow ridden island.
Additionally, Lionhead will also release a free DLC pack (on the same day) that allows those who opt not to download the premium pack to participate in co-op gameplay with those that do. Everyone who downloads the free pack will have access to “a show of gifts, including Knight’s Boots, Assassins Gloves, a special Weight Loss Potion, collectible silver book and more.”
Ubisoft seem to be on a bit of a roll today, finishing the week in style. First the news of the Prince of Persia Altair DLC, then Prince of Persia going gold - now they have detailed their latest Far Cry 2 downloadable content; The Fortune’s Pack.
