The smash hit Gears of War 2 hits 2.1 Million sales in its opening weekend on general sale… now by our calculations 2,100,000 x $60/£40 = a lot of money for Epic and Microsoft. Gears 2 also broke a Xbox Live record of serving 1.5 million playing Gears online - now that is a lot! We also unlocked 19 million achievements which, I contributed 32 too

Now although I love Gears of War 2 and have been massively impressed with it I want to take a few minutes away from singing its praises and concentrate on all of those niggly bits that have annoyed me. Only read on if you have completed the campaign mode as this contains spoilers.
1. No Berserkers
The best enemy from Gears of War and she doesn’t even get so much of a mention in the sequel! These were the monsters that everyone loved battling so why did they not appear? It doesn’t make sense Epic please get them to return in the 3rd game!
We’re getting reports that the Microsoft Ban Hammer has crashed down again, this time targeting Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty 5 pirates. Heres one quote from one angry forum user:
ooh well, dammit! this sux ass! was sittin’ here catchin’ up on some hulu stuff… and low and behold i get a message, disconnected from xbl. didn’t think much of it. then i’m imin’ with a friend of mine, and he asks, can you get on xbl… test connection… YOU’VE BEEN BANNED!!! argh. owell”
Oh well cant say we didn’t warn you! Another member believes it isn’t anything to do with Gears of War 2 saying:
“I did NOT play gear of war early, i played if for the first time to day. So this does not only affect those who played gears early.”
There’s one thing in common in these comments (No, not their very bad grammar and spelling) They all have modified Xbox’s so here’s a warning kids - Don’t play with mod kits!

This isn’t something that we would of guessed to be included into Call of Duty: World at War but it is and there isn’t anything we can do about it! Apparently its you and a team of players fighting against hordes of Zombies in waves and completion of rounds will earn you cash so you can build barricades and buy weapons. Now this does sound familiar with Left 4 Dead coming soon and of course Gears of War 2’s Horde mode but fighting Nazi Zombies definitely has some appeal.

Apprently a ranking system has been introduced to Gears of War 2 - Not a lot is known about it as of yet but according to an internet source it is ’similar to Halo’ along with matchmaking. Now is this good or bad? We will let you decide! Hit the jump to watch a video.
So the game releases this Friday in the UK and what better way could we celebrate the launch with an Achievement Guide? Last week we reported that Fallout 3 had been cracked and put on a torrent site but now we have just been informed that Gears of War 2 has also been leaked. With 3 weeks until its official release Gears of War 2 is available people have been steadily downloading the game and playing it on dodgy Xbox’s. If you feel like downloading this torrent remember Christmas is just around the corner and Santa Clause always know where the good little boys and girls live… Oh and remember guys if you buy the game in-store (Not pre-owned) you will receive the Day-One map pack (5 Remake maps from Gears of War) download code which will be available from… Wait for it… Day one. Now go - find a downloader and lynch him.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on the beta test for Call of Duty: World at War and, from what we can tell, it will definitely present a real challenge to its Xbox Live rivals this holiday season.
However, before we’d even played the game, we had a few reservations about CoD:WaW.
Kill Streaks
Our concerns were quite simple - they didn’t have UAVs in WW2, or helicopters for that matter. That just leaves Airstrikes. Would the Airstrikes remain? You’ll have to keep reading to find out.
Weapon Sights
What would the game’s developer do about weapon sights to compete with Modern Warfare? This was a concern that was echoed all across the Call of Duty community, and we’re pleased to announce this issue has been addressed and we’re impressed with the result.
Treyarch
The developers have endured a massive amount of criticism for taking on CoD:WaW because of how shamefully bad CoD3 was, both on and off-line, but people forget that Treyarch only had a year to develop CoD3. They’ve have had two years to develop World at War and it definitely shows!
Not another WW2 Shooter
Yes, the main concern had to be “Oh no not ANOTHER WW2 Shooter!” A sentiment that was rife online and in a lot of the stores displaying CoD:WaW posters and adverts. Well, this game is different but you’ll need to read the rest of the article to find out why.
Tut tut tut, those nasty pirates have been at it again and have managed to get there hands on a copy of Fallout 3 before release. According to several Internet sources the game was leaked prior to mass production and has now hit several torrent sharing sites. Now as supporters of Xbox 360 we recommend you stay well away from pirated games as piracy is bad and you will go to Hell* for all of your sins towards the gaming industry and Bethesda.

NXE (New Xbox Experience) has finally been given an official release date: 19th November 2008. That’s going to be one very busy day on Xbox Live, we can’t wait to try out the new avatar system but we are secretly worried about the current media support and whether it will still be working the same.
According to several Internet sources Gears of War 2 has gone gold, a full 28 days before release! Lets hope that its bug and glitch free! We personally can’t wait to play this game so to celebrate we will be hosting a Gears of War 2 Team Tournament soon.. keep your eyes peeled!
We have just received word from Major Nelson that Microsoft is not planning to release a Blu Ray add-on for the Xbox 360. No matter how many times this rumour starts it gets crushed instantly. Major Nelson talked with Aaron Greenberg at TGS08 in his latest Podcast and confirmed that no add-on is being created and no plans to create one. There we have it folks… another Blu Ray rumour squashed!

Are Ubisoft going mad? We think so over here at Xboxer towers. Ubisoft have announced that EndWar will be released on 7th November - now why does this date ring bells in our heads? oh yes thats right its the same day as Gears of War 2 - not much competition then! We really feel that this is going to be a one horse race so expect Ubisoft to delay EndWar by a week with some lame reason about shipping or something.
Having problems taking pictures of the cards hidden around Xbox.com using your Xbox Live Vision Camera? We here is a handy guide for you from AceyBongos.
1. Pinata Vision only becomes active after you’ve completed the tutorial and reach level 4. If you try to use the Vision camera before this it won’t work. Leafos will prompt you when you can start using your cards.
2. Make sure the zoom on the camera is turned all the way around to the right. If that doesn’t work, try turning it all the way to the left.
3. Make sure you’re in a very well lit room. You need a lot of light, but be careful that there’s no glare on the card.
4. The easiest way to use a card is to print it out from a colour printer. Move the paper slowly towards the camera until the blue lines capture the edges of the card. Keep moving it forward slowly until the light goes green. The card will usually fit the Pinata Vision window perfectly before the Pinata pops into your garden.
5. If you do need to use your Vision Camera on your computer screen, make sure the screen is bright and there’s no glare on it. If you have a laptop it’s easier to move the screen than the camera.
6. If you’re getting a red light keep trying the card at slightly different angles - eventually it will be picked up.
7. If you’re getting an amber light then the card has been recognised but there’s some other problem stopping you from getting the Pinata.
8. One general point - if the barcode or any of the borders of the card are obscured it won’t work. Make sure there’s no glare or misplaced fingers over the borders of the card.
Time to get your rock on! A demo of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith has been released onto the Marketplace. Playable tracks include: “Sweet Emotion” and “Dream On” by Aerosmith, as well as “Walk this Way” by Run DMC featuring Aerosmith, “I Hate Myself For Loving You” by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts and more. Anyone that was unsure about the game being GH3 in disguise should download this demo and give it a (button) bash.
We we’re a bit dubious about posting this so we’re not going to go into depth. Several rumours suggest that the NXE Dashboard Update is going to be released on 25th September backed up by a 5 hour countdown on TV. We must point out that this is very much a rumour and we wish it to stay that way until an official announcement is made. We were always told that NXE is due late November and Major Nelson confirmed this at PAX last week, so once again don’t go by what anyone says until we have official word.
The rumours also carry on with Microsoft giving away six free original xbox titles, and one of them is ‘confirmed’ to be Halo. Several other items suggest that we have a ton of new content to buy as well as the announced updates. Wait theres more… Apprantly a few new titles will be announced including Assassins Creed 2, Mass Effect 2 and a new Conker title. All of this news seems very interesting but highly unlikly.. we wait to be proven wrong.
Update: We can confirm that the release date is 31st October and not the 3rd.
Officially Fallout 3 was stated for release on 31st October but in an email we received this morning from GameStation suggests that Fallout 3 is coming on 3rd October? With a quick check on the calendar we can confirm that the 3rd is a friday, which is release day for the UK so a typo was out of the question. We’re going to investigate this a little further and update you all later!
Fourzerotwo has posted on his blog that Infinity Ward are having a double XP weekend this coming weekend for Xbox 360 and PS3 owners. Now some speculation suggests that this double XP weekend will run in line with the new playlist updates, which naturally would make sense but it could also celebrate overtaking Halo 3 again in Xbox Live usage. How about more frequent double XP weekends IW? Halo are always having double XP weekends!
