Borderlands 2 survival guide: hints and tips

Throughout my travels through the wastelands of Pandora I’ve learnt some things that other vault hunters may find useful.

Loot ‘em up

Don’t try and grab everything, instead work your way through the weapon and item sets and only pick up what you need. Start low and only keep weapons worth $50 then work up to $100, $500, $1000.

Back to black

The black market will trade your Eridium for permanent upgrades to the amount of ammo you can carry, more importantly if you select the small segment to the top right of the black market menu, you can upgrade your backpack and carry more loot, which is worth doing as soon as you can.

The shot is critical

When going up against larger enemies or bosses, aim for the sweet spot and get an extra critical damage bonus.

I love gold

Check out the extras menu at the start screen and sign yourself up for a Gearbox Shift account to grab a Golden Key and gain access to the golden loot box located in the town of Sanctuary which contains some rare weapons. It’s a lucky dip loot chest that is based on the current skill level of your character – the higher your rank, the better the weapon you receive.

It’s good to co-op

Either join a game or change your network settings so that anybody can join your game. The more people you play with the better the rewards. The quality of the loot drops will increase and the XP will be greater as enemies also increase in difficulty, plus it’s a lot of fun!

A side order of carnage please

Don’t ignore side quests – not only are they quite entertaining they also reward you with valuable XP. If you are finding a story mission particularly difficult go and do some side missions and rank up a bit. Each mission gives you a guide as to the level you should be to be able to tackle it without too much trouble. You can also sort your missions in difficulty order so you can see just what you can accomplish easily at your current rank.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-challenges

The badass challenges will award you with tokens that you can invest into character buffs that are applied across all your characters. The challenges range from getting headshots to more obscure and challenging ones.

David vs Goliath

If and when you come across the Goliath enemy type shoot him until his head explodes and he becomes enraged, then duck. Once enraged the Goliath will take out friend and foe, so sit back and watch him destroy his friends before putting him out of his misery

Slag ‘em up

Shoot an enemy with a weapon that causes the slag effect (the purple element) and slagged enemies will take massive damage when you shoot them with any other elemental weapon.  So once the enemy you’re targeting glows purple switch to your favourite elemental gun and fire away.

I, Robot

There are lots of robots to contend with in Borderlands 2, especially as Handsome Jack favours the tin men as his hired guard. Carrying a weapon that causes corrosive damage will make short work of these metal meanies.

About Richard Berry

Rich co-owns Xboxer360.com alongside Dave and in his spare time he plays games such as Halo, CoD and Battlefield. His all time favourite franchise is Assassin's Creed, other than that he tends to chase Dave around with a stick to get him to do stuff.
